Today I learned about Maryam Mirzakhani who is still alive and the first woman to recieve the fields medal.  She won it just last year.  (The fields medal is like a math nobel prize)  We also learned about fractils that never end, more about pascal's triangle,  we also used a graphing calculator to graph points that looked like a christmas tree.  Below is one of my favorite polynomials I have created recently.

Today I learned about the first considered female mathmation named Hypatia. She was from the time of ancient greece and her father taught her math and science to her.  She was respected by men and women alike, and became a teacher and activily involved with politics.  Her work was lost however in the Alexdriea library.  She was later killed by people who didn't beleive that women should be involved with math or science.

I also learned about Venn Diagrams, Sets and the diffrent symbols of Venn Diagrams.  A U means universal and includes everything outside and inside both circles in a Venn Diagram.   A 0 with a slash through it means an empty set.  A cardinal number of a set A is written as n(A) this represents the number of unique elments in A.  More about Venn Diagrams is in the link.

Another thing we learned about Polynomiography.  We used a website and put in diffrent Polynomials to create pictures like the one below.

Today I learned about the fundamental counting principle which was about finding the probability of things.  I also learned about Pascal's Triangle. Which appaernetly Pascal didn't create it and it actually originated in ancient china. We also explored Platonic shapes including the tetrahedron, the octahedron and more. Platonics got their name after Plato the ancient greek philsopher.

We learned about Fibonnaci sequence.  We also did some fun activities involving the Golden Ratio.  We played a really fun logic game called mastermind.   Earlier in the day, we learned about Maria Agnesi who was a very well educated woman and knew greek, spanish, french, and latin.  She was a child prodigy and could debate in all those languages by age 13.  After her mother died it was her duty to teach her 21 younger sibilings.  She died at age 39 because of a type of cancer.
